First, I told you about Oz Comic-Con in Sydney. And let’s face it: You didn’t believe it was really a ‘National Convention Circuit’. So then I told you about Oz Comic-Con in Sydney AND Brisbane. We even sent families to both events to see how big it is… but still, you didn’t believe me. Well, we accept your challenge: we’re here to tell you about Oz Comic-Con in Melbourne, Sydney AND Brisbane. This is so big, we can’t contain it in one article. Let’s focus on Melbourne (and stay tuned for Sydney/Brisbane updates).
Oh, what’s that? You wanted to know if there are giveaway tickets as well?
Would you head straight to the TV and Movie Stars available for autographs and photos? Julian Dennison is going to be popular this year, following on from his performances in Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Deadpool II. But let’s be honest: if I’m going to grab his autograph, I will have him sign a Lynx can (it’s an Aussie thing. Watch the video).
TV and movie stars are just the beginning (see the whole list of Melbourne guests here). What else do you want to see?
If only I could travel to Melbourne and see my glorious favorites:
Sure, he’ll tell you all about his admiration for Superman and Lois, or Jean Grey and Storm, but his real love… the one that he only shares with true friends… Jeffrey the Fish from The Deep. Ask him yourself; there is so much to talk about!
It’s not all about the Star Wars and Cap’s Shield, this guy is adored for his My Little Pony beauties as well. If he doesn’t come to Sydney, I am in so much trouble with my kids…
A returning-guest at my comic book club, Queens of Kings, she’s known for her dreamy manga style horror. Queenie’s also working on a non-fiction children’s comic called The Greatest Queens of History. Unfortunately, it is not based on my comic book club…
This is the man who harnessed our eldest son’s artistic creativity and helped him reveal “TURBOSAUR and his sidekick, Electro-Fly!!”. You really should check out the award-winning Past the Last Mountain. And if he is involved with any of the kids’ workshops, do not miss them. 11-year-old Sinister emphatically states Louie is the best teacher and workshop facilitator he has ever met.
Speaking of kids workshops, you could totally use these tickets to check out the kids’ workshops! There are plenty of opportunities to try your hand at comic art or talk with fellow cosplayers on your creative ideas. Once you have absorbed the masterclasses, head over to Melbourne’s Championship of Cosplay heat. We have had a few Aussies take the podium at the International Cosplay Competitions. See if you can pick any international contenders at the Melbourne heat.
There are also plenty of bonus exhibits to check out. Last year in Sydney, we loved the Justice League Escape Room, played around in The Tick’s apartment, and discovered our hidden alliances at the Marvel Avenger’s display.
Right now, I am looking at flights to Melbourne… Oh, come on!! My kids have school events on that weekend? I have to … stay home?!?
*sigh* Looks like I have three (3) double passes to give-away for the Melbourne Oz Comic-Con event on 9-10 June 2018. The double passes grant two (2) adults entry to the Melbourne event for the whole weekend. Each adult can bring in one (1) child up to the age of 12. That means each double pass grants admission to two adults and two kids. Or one adult and ALL THE GOODIES FOR ME AND ONLY ME… wait, sorry. Family-friendly site, right? Let’s go back to ‘each loving adult can bring in one grateful child’.
All YOU have to do is enter through the form below. And make sure you are able to attend. The details are:
WHEN: June 9th (Saturday) – 10th (Sunday) from 9am – 6pm, each day.
WHERE: The Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, 1 Convention Centre Pl, South Wharf
If you miss out on this giveaway, you can still buy tickets to Melbourne Oz Comic-Con. Advance tickets are now on sale, with 24% off General Admission Single Day Passes and 16% off Weekend Passes. General Admission tickets will be $42.50 at the door, children under 12 are free.
How is your calendar looking for September? Because our buddies at Oz Comic-Con have organized more ticket giveaways for Brisbane (22/23 Sept) and Sydney (29/30 Sept). Stay tuned for Oz Comic-Con news in July.
In the meantime, I’ll be following the updates on Twitter and Instagram, and share all the goodies through GeekMom. Considering some of the Breaking News that has emanated from Australia in the past, I wouldn’t miss a single Oz event ever again.
Entry is by way of the form below, and drawn by random. Entries Close Thursday 24 May 2018, and winners will be announced by 26 May. Competition is open to Australian Residents only and is for event admission only; all additional costs, including accommodation, travel, food, beverages, guest tokens, and merchandise are the sole responsibility of the winners. All information collected for the purpose of the competition only and will be provided to the Oz Comic-Con operators for the purpose of providing the tickets.
