DC This Week: Reunion Time. Batgirls! Apollo & Midnighter! Gordon & the Marines

April 6, 2016December 8, 2017Corrina Lawson

This week, Batgirl hits 50, Peter J. Tomasi hit two runs this week with his work on Superman and Batman: Detective Comics, and I became distracted by Mikel Janin’s art on Superman. So pretty.

March 30, 2016December 8, 2017Corrina Lawson

Just four comics this week from DC but they’re all excellent.

DC Comics This Week: ‘Midnighter’ & ‘Secret Six’ Steal the Show

March 24, 2016December 8, 2017Corrina Lawson

Secret Six guest-starring Batgirl is bittersweet this week and, meanwhile, Midnighter hops around the DC Universe. (But not to fight Deathstroke, thankfully.)

“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Comic’: Not What You’d Expect

March 17, 2016December 8, 2017Corrina Lawson2

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow gets a comic, sorta. Meanwhile, Martian Manhunter is the best comic SF epic you’re not reading. That and more reviews of this week’s DC Comics.

Romance Is Worldbuilding, Even in Science Fiction

March 17, 2016December 8, 2017Corrina Lawson

There’s a reason you find romance throughout all types of literature century after century: it’s a huge part of many people’s lives.

DC This Week: ‘The Legend of Wonder Woman’ Soars

March 9, 2016December 8, 2017Corrina Lawson1

This week in DC? The Legend of Wonder Woman gets more awesome, Constantine hates fairies, Starfire hates invaders but Midnighter is learning to like Dick Grayson’s little interruptions.

One Green Lantern Shines But Not the One With 50 Issues

March 2, 2016December 8, 2017Corrina Lawson

This week: An excellent issue of Omega Men draws comparisons to Watchmen, the trade of the excellent Martian Manhunter SF story is out, and DC drops excellent issues of Batgirl and Midnighter.

Lois & Clark Rule This Week in DC

February 25, 2016December 7, 2017Corrina Lawson

This is an odd week for DC. First, an alternate universe story featuring classic Lois & Clark is our favorite, Frank Miller seems to have a more hopeful view of superheroes than many of DC’s current comics, Neal Adams goes back to 1970s style storytelling and the big Darkseid War saga is falling flat, even […]

This Week in DC: Harley Quinn and the Joker Have It Out

February 17, 2016December 7, 2017Corrina Lawson

This week in DC Comics, Harley and the Joker have an epic throwdown, Martian Manhunter turns into a giant Earth-saving machine, the Secret Six and Batgirl make nice, there’s another installment of Max Landis’ origin of Superman and Doctor Fate goes topical.

DC This Week: Bruce (Batman) Wayne is Back

February 11, 2016December 7, 2017Corrina Lawson

Yes, Bruce Wayne takes back the mantle of the Bat but we’re having the most fun reading The Legend of Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Constantine and the Batman/TMNT crossover!

DC Comics: Buy ‘Midnighter’ Before He’s Gone

February 4, 2016December 7, 2017Corrina Lawson

What else should you grab? If you like horror, Swamp Thing. Batgirl fans, the new issue is out and Black Canary’s back. Fans of Scott Snyder’s run on Batman should check out Batman & Robin Eternal, as there are major doings with Harper Row. But Ray and I won’t limit ourselves to just those comics. We read them all.

Poison Ivy: Plant, Human Or Something Else?

January 20, 2016December 7, 2017Corrina Lawson

Poison Ivy and the Joker are in Gotham, Bruce Wayne looks to be Batman again, Martian Manhunter needs to make the world safe for biscuits, and the original Titans gather. All this and more in this week’s DC reviews.

The DC Comics You Should Be Reading

January 14, 2016December 7, 2017Corrina Lawson2

In print, Deathstroke’s ‘meh’ title is selling more than Grayson, DC: Bombshells, Black Canary and We Are Robin. Martian Manhunter, Secret Six, Doctor Fate and Omega Men are bottom sellers. Gotham Academy, one of the freshest and most interesting ideas in the Batman mythos in ages, is selling only 16,000 print copies a week, which boggles my mind.

Swamp Thing Oozes Into a Zombie Mystery in This Week's DC Comics

Wondering what to buy at the comic shop this week? Ray and Corrina have you covered.

Women Lead This Week’s DC Comics

December 30, 2015December 4, 2017Corrina Lawson

This week’s favorites feature women. Cassandra Cain is spotlighted in Batman and Robin: Eternal, Lois is the co-lead in Superman: Lois & Clark, and Black Canary, of course. Sadly, Superman/Wonder Woman and the Wonder Woman title suffer by comparison.

DC Bombshells: The Perfect Stocking Stuffer

December 23, 2015December 4, 2017Corrina Lawson

DC Bombshells is spectacular this week, as is the final issue of Gotham by Midnight, Ray and myself are in love with the Titans Hunt series (the less said of the regular Titans series, the better), The Robin War zooms toward an ending, Bryan Hitch gives us spectacular splash pages in Justice League of America, and Dark Knight III: The Master Race goes in an unexpected direction.

We Are Robin

This Week: DC Tackles the Question of Where Robins Come From

December 16, 2015December 4, 2017Corrina Lawson

Batman and Robin Eternal and We Are Robin explore the issues around having Robins in the first place, while Harley Quinn has no qualms about expanding her army of Harleys for supposedly good purposes.

Ninja Turtles and the Robin War Make Gotham the Place to Be This Week

December 9, 2015December 4, 2017Corrina Lawson

We’re Thankful for ‘Lois & Clark’, Bat-kids & ‘The Omega Men’ This Week

November 26, 2015December 4, 2017Corrina Lawson

Wonder Woman and Superman continue to be ill-served by their own titles but the Bat-crew is making out wonderfully, while the new Lois & Clark series finally features the Superman we all remember.

Martian Manhunter Destroys Earth & The Secret Six Take on Aquaman in DC This Week

November 19, 2015December 4, 2017Corrina Lawson

Batman & Robin Eternal continues to roll along, Secret Six stumbles into being the good guys. Sorta. And Martian Manhunter has an existential argument with himself about the fate of the Earth, except all his selves are real.
