Mother’s Day is May 13th and that means it’s time to start hinting to our families what to get us for that special day…I mean…it’s time for us to start recommending to our readers some items so fabulously geeky that mom will forget all those times you “forgot” to help with the dishes.
Just for Fun and Relaxation
Give mom something to take care of herself for once and maybe spend some time having fun. Here are our suggestions!
Second Spring Naturals
Price: Varies by gift bags start around $29.99
Pick out a gift bag from Second Spring Naturals and let mom enjoy a bath bomb cupcake and whipped soap or hand cream. The lip balm is really nice as well and it’s perfect for the mom on the go.
Pilot MR Retro Pop Fountain Pen
I love writing by hand. Nothing is more satisfying than the smooth flow of ink to paper and the soft scribbling sound that the Pilot MR Retro Pop Fountain Pen creates. It’s an economical and thoughtful choice for the mom with amazing penmanship. – Submitted by GeekMom Kali Moulton
Price: 5.95 each
FanSet Pins are adorable and can be used to create a wearable ‘family’ like the ubiquitous car decals. Pictured is Star Trek Discovery’s Katrina Cornwell representing me and Harry Potter’s Ginny Weasley representing my daughter. They have a few different geeky fandoms to choose from and the pins are quality and service is quick. – Submitted by GeekMom Anika Dane
Crayola Signature Crayoligraphy Calligraphy Art Set
Adult coloring kits are enjoyable and a creative way to reduce stress. The Crayola Signature Crayoligraphy Calligraphy Art Set encourages you to learn different ways to enhance and refine the way you write messages and do letters.
Sumo lounge Carpet
The Sumo Carpet faux Chinchilla is the softest carpet I’ve laid on in my life. My family couldn’t get enough of the soft fur against our feet as we walked around on it. It comes in four home friendly colors to suit any mom’s preference.
What Do You Meme? Game
Price: $29 for the game, $16 and up for expansion packs
What Do You Meme? is a fun adult game that puts your humor to the test to see who can come up with the best meme for the photo given. It’s like Cards Against Humanity with pictures. Available at Spencers Gifts.
Harry Potter Mug
Most moms are in a better mood after they’ve had their morning hot beverage. Get them a mug that lets them drink it in the style of their favorite wizard and platform number with the Harry Potter mug from Spencers.
The Kent Keyring Wallet – Spring Monogram Stripe
The Kent Keyring Wallet by Barrington Gifts is a fully customizable gift with you deciding on everything from the print, stripe, monogram, and leather trim. Your customized wallet comes in a protective cloth pouch that will help keep it looking new when mom isn’t using it. Bonus. It holds a set of keys as well.
OVVO Optics Sunglasses
The lightest pair of sunglasses I own are the 2272 style from OVVO Optics. They are tough enough for my son to handle and they’re so light I’ve forgotten I was wearing them a few times. They are a bit pricey but if you need a reliable pair of shades, these are my go-to brand. Check out OVVO Optics website for the dealer closest to you.
Boho Berry Box Subscription
Price: $25.00 + $3 shipping for one month and price breaks for additional months after that.
Boho Berry is a cute little Etsy store that shares its love of journaling in a subscription box service. You get member only add-ins with the subscription box that are not available in stores. The May box was birthday themed and contained a few pages of stickers perfectly suited for the bullet journaler, color yourself cupcake washi tape, a rose gold Faber-Castell marker, and two gel pens along with a recipe for Red Velvet Cupcakes. If your mom is into journaling, this is a nice starter accessory box for her.
Looking stylish while showing off her geek side is a practical way to show mom you care. And if some of those clothing pieces can also be used for cosplay, she sure won’t complain.
Po-Zu Rey Boot
Po-Zu is an ethical footwear manufacturer producing a range of sustainably produced vegan and vegetarian shoes and boots. They also have a large, official Star Wars range and their Rey boots (identical to Rey’s footwear in The Force Awakens) are so comfortable you could wear them as slippers. They’re perfect for cosplay or regular daily wear and thanks to their ethical credentials, you can feel good about wearing them too. – Submitted by GeekMom Sophie Brown
Solo: A Star Wars Story Skirt for Women by Star Wars Boutique
The popularity of “Dapper Days” at Disney parks worldwide has inspired some dress and skirt additions to the long line t-shirts and casual pieces on the Disney Store site. Recently, they added a tea-length skirt inspired by Solo: A Star Wars Story that would look great with solid tee (or even a Star Wars logo one). It’s always nice to have at least one dressy piece for a day out with your fellow scoundrels. – Submitted by GeekMom Kali Moulton
Deadpool: I Love Tacos Shirt
Tacos + Deadpool + cool raglan style. Do I need to say more here? Ohh yea. It’s available at Spencers Gifts.
H2 Apparel Sports Bra + Swim/Gym Capris
Price: Sports bra: $60, Leggings $45
H2 Apparel makes some of the comfiest sports bras and Capri leggings I’ve tried. The best part about the leggings is they double as swimwear! Two items of clothing for the price of one and in a cute style to boot. Let dad be the one to find the sizes for you.
What geeky mom doesn’t love a little tech? Here are our picks for some tech mom would love so much she will reduce that grounding she gave you for your grades last semester.
Switchmate Snap-On Smart Light Switch and Instant Smart Power Outlet
Give mom the gift of saving money with the Switchmate Snap-On Smart Light Switch and Instant Smart Power Outlet kit. I love mine and thought it was really cool how all I had to do was snap it over the existing light switch or outlet. I change the location of our smart light switch as I see the need (for example, instead of controlling my room one night, I’ll program it to turn the porch light on before my husband comes home from work). The kit comes with either a rocker or toggle switch so make sure you grab the right kit when purchasing.
Doxie Q Wireless Scanner
I’ve reviewed a couple of the Doxie products before and they are always worth checking out. The Doxie Q stands alone because it doesn’t need a computer to work. With the included SD card you can scan everything while in the car lane at school, the playground, or just sitting in your favorite chair. When you’re ready to move the scans to your computer, just pop the SD card out and import the scans. You can rename, combine, and convert them all from the Doxie app.
Viotek FastPad Wireless Charger
How about the gift of a fully charged phone? I compared the Viotek FastPad Wireless Charger to my Anker wireless charging pad and I have to say I’m surprised. Both chargers were comparable at a 5% increase every 10 minutes. The Viotek is much slimmer than the Anker charger which makes it the winner in my book. Make sure mom’s phone is compatible before purchasing.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales on Blu-ray/Digital
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales on Digital HD and 4K Ultra HD is a treat for Moms and the rest of the family alike! My family was SO happy that the storyline returned to the continuing saga of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann’s legacy, and the inclusion of Javier Bardem’s truly wicked Captain Salazar makes this film a family favorite. – Submitted by GeekMom Patricia Vollmer
Cars 3 on Digital/Blu-ray
I’m the kind of Mom who enjoys a Mother’s Day gift the whole family can enjoy. Cars 3 is a feel-good movie on many levels: for the kids who will still enjoy Lightning’s timeless adventures, for the parents who will watch the mentorship between the wise experts and the naive novices, and for sports fans who will nod in understanding about how technology is always “changing the game.” – Submitted by GeekMom Patricia Vollmer
Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Blu-ray/Digital
Duh! It just came out at the end of March! Of course, Mom’s going to want her very own copy of Star Wars: The Last Jedi! If you’ve seen the movie already, then you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the bonus features. My favorite? ‘The Director and the Jedi’, a full-length documentary about the making of the film. It’s touching and exciting all at once. Don’t miss it! -Submitted by GeekMom Patricia Vollmer
I don’t know about other moms, but this mom would love a few books for Mother’s Day. And a book that is in line with something I’m passionate about shows that my family pays attention to what I’m in to.

Each story features one or two prominent female characters from across the Star Wars universe including Leia, Rey, Hera, Padme, Ahsoka, Rose, and Paige, and sees the ladies developing into even more rounded characters. Atlas of Empires: The World’s Great Powers from Ancient Times to Today by Peter Davidson is a nice overview of all the empires from ancient days right up to today. The photography is as detailed as the text with 60 detailed maps of the empires and their territories at various stages of their existence. Any mother who dreams of Josh Gates or Indiana Jones will be sure to love this look at the worlds past and where today’s world could be headed.
Give mom the gift of feeling like her childhood self with Kidult Handbook: From Blanket Forts to Capture the Flag, A Grownup’s Guide to Playing Like a Kid by Nicole Booz. This book is best paired with the tools necessary to have some fun with a LEGO kit (I LOVE the ship in a bottle one) or the tools to build her own fort with some battery candles and calming music (and time to enjoy them!).
Craft-a-Day by Sarah Goldschadt is a fun book to give a mom with a basket full of her favorite craft supplies. Many of the crafts are simple enough to do during some self-care time and also easy enough for you to help her!

Kitty does a nice job incorporating various stereotypical romance type gentleman for the reader to chase after or run away from, depending on the mood.

From the early days of Sheena, Queen of the Jungle to the modern day heroes like Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) this book is a nice compilation of the women who paved the way for the women heroes we have today. Pair this book up with a trade copy mom’s favorite superhero.
Cinemaps: An Atlas of 35 Great Movies
Cinemaps: An Atlas of 35 Great Movies by Andrew DeGraff with essays by A.D Jameson is a neat book to pair with one of mom’s favorite movies featured in the book like Star Wars or The Princess Bride.
