FROM May 24th thru May 27th, the geek world takes over the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida for Megacon 2018 hosted by FanExpo. GeekMom will be in full coverage mode as we check out all the convention has to offer geeks of all ages.
Here are my top 5 reasons to stop by if you are in town.
1. Impressive Celebrity Lineup
This year we have an impressive lineup including Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Jeff Goldblum (Jurrasic Park), Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess), Karl Urban (Star Trek), Jim Lee (DC Comics), Jodi Benson (voice of Ariel in Disney’s A Little Mermaid)and a dozen more. Some are only in attendance on certain days so check out MegaCon’s website for more information.
2. Fun for Every Member of The Family
Try to escape a Harry Potter themed escape room or playoff against or with your buddies in the Nerf War room. Both of these experiences are new to MegaCon Orlando and I’m excited to check out how much fun they are. MegaCon will also be hosting it’s all ages room full of fun for the family that just needs to take a break from the convention floor.
3. Meet The Troopers of The 501st Legion
The 501st Legion will be bringing their A-Game for one of the Florida Garrison’s biggest event of the year. Come meet the troopers of the worldwide organization (including myself!) and take aim with a Nerf gun at a stormtrooper for charity. I’ll be suiting up as Clone Trooper Denal in armor on Friday or Saturday so keep your eyes peeled. I might have a trading card or two to give out to those who say “Hail GeekMom.”
4. First Ever Launch Party at Madame Tussauds
Madame Tussauds is hosting the first ever MegaCon launch party. Tickets are $29 and get you access to the MegaCon Justice League opening party at Madame Tussauds, one ride on the Coca-Cola Orlando Eye, and entry into MegaCon’s Cosplay Kick-Off Party at the Sugar Factory.
I’ll be in attendance giving you all the inside scoop on this hot new addition, so stay tuned to GeekMom for more coverage!
5. Cosplay Everywhere!
You can’t be excited about MegaCon without mentioning the amazing cosplays that show up. There’s a little bit of everything from the humble casuals to the over the top extreme. Saturday is usually when the best of the best strut there stuff so take your camera and keep an eye out. And remember, cosplay does not equal consent. Please ask before taking pictures of cosplayers so you get their best pose!
No matter your geekdom, MegaCon has something for all ages and all fandoms. Tabletop gaming, Pokemon battles, speed dating for all gender types are just a few fun things you will find and experience.
