Stealth Summer Learning

Education Games GeekMom

This homeschool mom has been doing a little poolside professional development recently. I’ve been reading this book and thinking a lot about stealth learning.

I am a big fan of stealth learning. When children are engaged in fun, hands-on activities, they are often unaware that they are practicing important skills. So much learning can happen through fantastic books, play, and games!

Here are some of our family’s favorite summer stealth learning activities

Today, I am sharing some of the stealth learning activities that our family has enjoyed this summer. When you are finished reading, I’d love to hear your current favorites!

Balance Beans is a new logic and reasoning game from the fine folks at ThinkFun. Balance Beans is a one-player game for ages 5 and up. The game teaches young children early algebra and physics. To play, set up the seesaw and select a challenge card. Arrange the red beans on the seesaw according to the instructions on the challenge card. The object of the game is to add additional beans in order to balance the seesaw.

Clumsy Thief is an award-winning, fun, easy-to-learn, quick-to-play, fast-paced math facts game. Your children will be so caught up in the action that they won’t even realize they are learning their math facts. Warning: this game is addictive and your children will request to play it over and over and over again!

Scrambled States is a game that will have you all giggling. Plus, if you play this a few times your children be U.S. geography experts! Based on Laurie Keller’s hilarious book, Scrambled States is an easy to learn game that your kids are sure to love.

Geo Bingo World and Geo Bingo USA are part of our regular rotation over here. It’s amazing how much geography your children can pick up through play alone.

Tell Me a Story is available in several versions and can be played in a variety of ways. By creating stories together, your family will be tapping into those all-important creativity and imagination skills. You’ll also be working on literacy, vocabulary, sequencing, cause-and-effect… and fun!

Quoridor is an award-winning strategy game. It is one of those games that can be explained in less 10 minutes and yet it remains challenging and fun for all ages.

By using carefully selected, high-quality games and resources, your children can have fun this summer and learn tons!

Nothing says Monday morning like a little chemistry! ?
