In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.” –J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
Happy Hobbit Day!
In case you didn’t know, Hobbit Day is an international holiday to celebrate the birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, both born on the 22nd of September (although in different years). This year I am honoring those small yet brave Hobbits with a Geeky House: Hobbit Style!
Here’s several Shire inspired finds to make your home as cozy and comfortable as a hole in the ground:

Rustic Barrel Coffee Table
Adding a old oak barrel repurposed as a piece of furniture will add charm and a little bit of Hobbit whimsy to your living space! You could also use them as lighting, planters, and storage. They are very useful!

Wooden Wonders Play House
I’m completely one-ring obsessed with this company. They make these Hobbit inspired playhouses in a variety of sizes and can customize to your preference. The wee Hobbits will love it!

Wooden Wonders Chicken Coop and Dog Houses
If you are more likely to befriend Radagast the Brown, preferring the company of animals, than Wooden Wonders also makes Shire-worthy chicken coops and dog houses. I am currently trying to convince my partner we need chickens, and this coop gave me a point in my favor.

Vintage Rake
Mount the head of a cool vintage rake on the wall to make an instant wine glass, cooking utensil, or jewelry holder! Something like this would be perfect, but it’s fairly easy to find these at antique shops or online. You may even have one in your shed!

An old fashioned or vintage manual coffee grinder
Add a little elbow grease and a much better cup of coffee by grinding your beans in a charming little grinder like this one! Bonus: something I noticed when using a manual grinder was the control I could have over the ground. It was much easier to stop and check the consistency of my beans!

The Perfect Coffee Cup
The most precious coffee must go in the a worthy cup. This one happens to be my favorite (pictured above) but you can find just the right one to start your day, and for second breakfast, and for afternoon tea.

Hobbit Beer Mugs
For celebrations and elevenses, try your favorite brew in these. You can also get pint glasses with a souvenir “Prancing Pony” and more but I liked the simplicity of these.

Storybook Lights
You can add a bit of storybook Hobbit charm to your house by changing out your porch light for something a bit more crafted, like these or these. For a less expensive option, something like this would be adorable!

No Admittance Doormat
For Hobbits who have their priorities right. You can also get a door plaque if a doormat isn’t appropriate for your hobbit hole.
