Every year on the first Saturday of May, major comic book publishers team up to give out freebies at comic book stores across the country. Free Comic Book Day brings fans not only free issues starring some of their favorite characters, but also a chance to attend one-of-a-kind events with renowned comic book creators.

Over 40 free books for all ages will be offered this year, including some notable titles from publishers large and small:

  • Infinity (Marvel Comics)
  • Star Wars / Captain Midnight (Dark Horse Comics)
  • Superman: Last Son of Krypton (DC Comics)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW)
  • The Walking Dead (Image)
  • DC Nation Super Sampler (DC Comics)
  • Mass Effect / Killjoys / R.I.P.D. (Dark Horse Comics)
  • Molly Danger / Princeless (Action Lab Entertainment)
  • Mouse Guard (Archaia Entertainment)

And don’t forget to chat up the comic book staff for more titles you might be interested in. Your local comic book store experts can point you in the right direction for graphic novels, books similar to ones you already enjoy, or even that last comic book you need to pick up for the Gender Through Comic Books online course.

Free comic books aren’t enough to get you to a comic book store? Take a look at this mini-documentary about involving you and your family in Free Comic Book Day to promote early reading and spark your kids’ imaginations.

This year Free Comic Book Day falls on the 4th of May, also known as Star Wars Day, for one amazing day of geekery. Head down to your comic book shop decked out in that Star Wars costume stashed away in your closet to celebrate!
