‘Tis the Season for Doctor Who

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, Christmas is a glimmer in my eye. Christmas means mint cocoa, holiday movies, and the Doctor Who Christmas Special. This show never fails to impress with its seasonal offering. This year’s special is set in Dorset during World War II, when the Doctor enters the life of a young widow and her children. Always one for cameos, this year’s special stars three UK comedians: the ever resourceful Bill Bailey (Black Books), Arabella Weir (The Fast Show), and Alexander Armstrong (The Armstrong and Miller Show). The image above is the first glimpse of the episode, which will air on BBC America this Christmas.

So what can we glean from this juicy preview? There will be running, of course there will be running, and the sonic screwdriver will see some action, make sure you have yours charged up. Not much to go on, but I’m excited.

Here is a list of Doctor Who Christmas Specials since the dawn of Christopher Eccleston:

  • 2005 – “The Christmas Invasion” – Introducing David Tennant
  • 2006 – “The Runaway Bride”
  • 2007 – “Voyage of the Damned”
  • 2008 – “The Next Doctor”
  • 2009 – “The End of Time” – Bye Bye David Tennant
  • 2010 – “A Christmas Carol”

  1. Just seen the trailer on BBC Children in Need (a telethon organised by the BBC to raise money for kids projects and disadvantaged children). It looks fantastic…think Doctor Who meets Narnia!
