GeekDad: Waterdrop Advent Review: Drink Your Way To Healthy Holidays

GeekMom

Waterdrop was kind enough to send me their 2024 advent calendar to check out and here are my thoughts.

What is Waterdrop?

Waterdrop is a water flavor enhancer that boasts being healthy, low calorie, and sugar free. The product itself is a little “pod” that you drop into a cold glass of water (regular or sparkling) and once it dissolves, you have a glass of healthy flavored water.

Flavors range from fruity iced tea to cola to a variety of fruits. Some of the flavors, like iced tea raspberry have a hint of caffeine and a trivial amount of sugar.

Each box of flavor costs $13 for 12 pods. So on average, you are paying around just over a dollar per bottle of water you flavor.

My Thoughts on Waterdrop

Like most people, I need to drink more water and less cola. I wanted to try Waterdrop to see if the flavorings would encourage my palette to grab the water bottle over the soda can.

I tried the Koko Pina flavor which has coconut and pineapple flavors. There is no caffeine in this flavor and it has 36mg of vitamin C, 120mg of potassium, and 90mg of sodium.

To test the pods, I put one in a 14oz glass of cold water and one in a 12oz of ginger ale. I like to have flavored ginger ale occasionally, so this made sense for me. It took about five minutes for the pods to dissolve (and that was with stirring it occasionally). Not bad if you are filling your water bottle at the cooler and then chit chatting about last nights Dancing with the Stars episode with your work bestie.

The flavor in the water was mild and had more subtle tones of coconut and pineapple vs what you would get using the grocery store options like Crystal Light. However, the flavor was strong enough to taste but not strong enough to overpower your senses.

In the water, I prefer this over the other brands I’ve tried because it tastes natural. It didn’t leave any kind of aftertaste and it didn’t add a powdery texture to the water.

The ginger ale gave me a different experience. If I’m going to flavor my ginger ale, I’m going with Waterdrop from now on. The flavors of the Koko Pina pod combined with the flavors of the ginger ale merged so nicely that it was as if they were made for each other. The sweetness of the ginger ale added nicely to the natural flavors in the Koko Pina pod. I could easily drink this in one shot and then reach for more. 10/10 would do this again.

Advent Calendar Value – No Spoilers

Now that we’ve covered what Waterdrop is and what I think of it, let’s dive into if the cost of the advent calendar is worth it. I will not be giving any spoilers that are not already in the description of the calendar on Waterdrop’s website.

To start, the calendar retails for $189.50 (free shipping) and claims to have a value of $320. $189.50 is a bit pricey for an advent calendar, but if it stays true to the value, then it’s kind of a steal.

The description of the advent calendar says we get 11 flavors spread throughout the 25 day calendar. At around $13 per box of 12 pods, that is around $143 just for the pods themselves in the value. We are only $46 away from the cost of the calendar itself.

The description also says we get an exclusive water bottle, which if you look at the cost of their regular bottles, could range around $32 or more. That puts us at the cost of the calendar just in pods and a water bottle. The rest of the items in the box are extras if you look at the cost of the calendar vs the value. So half the box has Waterdrop product and the other half will have accessories and self-care items. Not bad if you ask me.

The Verdict

If you like Waterdrop or want an advent calendar that is healthy and gives you something that you will use, then this one makes sense. It gives you a variety of flavorings with a container to enjoy them in with a few extras to add to the experience. The reusable box is beautiful and will probably hold my art supplies after the holiday season. The small boxes that the daily gifts come in are the perfect size for wrapping up gift cards and other small trinkets.

Even if you are reading this after December 1st, this is still a great value for what you get. I’m happy to add the Waterdrop advent calendar to my holiday traditions this year.

You can purchase the Waterdrop advent calendar from Waterdrop’s website.
