Who needs 50 Shades of Grey, when there’s a million shades of geeky out there for the ones you love…whether expressing romantic love, appreciation to the loyalty of friends, or devotion to family this Valentine’s Day.
Love is best when served geeky, and there have been plenty more ways to express love in the various geeky universes, since we ran our first set of “Perfect Quotes for Your Geeky Valentine” ran in 2014.
It’s definitely time for more!
One movie that inspired love recently was Wonder Woman, but not necessarily romantic love. Love of your fellow people, love of life, and love defeating all hate. Plus, Gal Godot is just plain awesome. Two favorites from Diana:
“Only Love can truly save the world.”
“It’s not about ‘deserve.’ It’s about what you believe. And I believe in Love.”
There’s are also some great mother-to-daughter quotes from Queen Hippolyta from both the movies and comics:
“You have been my greatest love. Today you are my greatest sorrow.” ( for when they set off on their own)
On the other side of the coin, there’s Deadpool, who’ll leave no offensive comment unsaid, but we love him for it. He did say, his movie is a “love story.”
Here are a few for Deadpool fans, that’s I’ll try to keep in the PG-13 range. No “can I see you between the holidays” quips:
“Love is a beautiful thing. When you find it, the whole world tastes like daffodil daydream.”
“Your crazy matches my crazy. Big time.”
“I swear to God, I’m gonna’ find you in the next life, and I’m gonna boombox ‘Careless Whisper’ outside your window.”
“You don’t need to be a superhero to get the girl. The right girl will bring out the hero in you.”
There is also a whole new batch of Star Wars movies and characters as well. They have their own of takes on love, compassion and other matters of the heart and soul.
From The Force Awakens:
“You still drive me crazy.” — General Leia (to Han)
From Rogue One:
“May The Force Be With Us” — Jyn Erso (changing that last word makes a world of difference in its meaning)
From The Last Jedi:
“You’re not alone.” — Kylo Ren
“Neither are you.” — Rey
“This is how we win. Not by fighting what we hate, but by saving what we love.” — Rose Tico
Love, Actually is considered a Christmas movie by its fans, but it has such a geeky cast. It also focuses on love of all kinds like romance, friends, and family.
“To me, you are perfect.” — Mark
“I love you even when you’re sick and look disgusting.” — Jamie
…and for your best pal (who may or may not be the love of your life)
“Let’s get pissed and watched porn.” —Billy Mack to Joe
One of the most successful franchises of recent has been the two Guardians of the Galaxy films, and there are plenty of lovely feelings to go around there for everyone:
“We Are Groot.” — Groot
“Of all our siblings, I hated you the least.” — Nebula
“I am not some starry-eyed waif here to succumb to your pelvic sorcery.” —Gamora
“Sometimes, the thing you’ve been looking for your whole life is right there beside you all along.” — Peter Quill
“It is (beautiful). And so are you. …on the inside.” — Drax (To Mantis)
Finally, here are a few random quotes for your uniquely geeky love:
“I see you.” —Na’vi greeting from Avatar
“(We’re) madly in love, so it’s alright to kiss me anytime you feel like it.” —Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games books
“Love makes you do the wacky.” —Buffy from Buffy The Vampire Slayer
“You are the moon of my life.” – Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones
“I find myself wondering if we should actually engage in coitus at least one time in our relationship.” – Sheldon Cooper to Amy Farrah Fowler from Big Bang Theory
“You turn my world, you precious thing.” – The Goblin King from Labyrinth
“I don’t flirt. I just say what I want.” — Jessica Jones
“The universe can’t stop us because we have crossed galaxies, we have traveled through time, we survived the bottom of the Atlantic just so we could be together. A love like that, that is stronger than (any) curse.” — Fitz (to Simmons) from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
And one last heartbreaker on what could have been…
“Are you ready for our dance?”— Steve Rogers (to Peggy Carter)
With more and more Marvel and DC television series and movies, the expanding Star Wars and Star Trek universes, and the ever-increasing world of books and comics, there is plenty more where these came from. We would love to have you share your own favorites with us in the comments.
Let’s keep it going, because:
