BlizzCon 2017: No One Does Cinematics Like Blizzard Entertainment

Every year at BlizzCon, fans of Blizzard Entertainment have come to expect jaw-dropping presentations, big announcements, and edge-of-your-seat gameplay excitement. This year was no exception. This weekend at BlizzCon in Anaheim, CA, Blizzard shared what the future holds for their incredible lineup of games with cinematic trailers that left the audience in awe.

Couldn’t make it to BlizzCon? Don’t worry, we have you covered. Even if you’ve never played a game by Blizzard before—and especially if you have—these trailers will make you laugh, gasp, and maybe even cry.

Overwatch: “Honor and Glory”

Many of Overwatch’s impressive stable of characters have gotten the cinematic treatment, sharing quick snapshots into the hero’s past and how they became part of the fight. At BlizzCon 2017, voice actor Darin de Paul introduced the newest animated short, a look at the life of the character he brings to life: Reinhardt.

At the “Connect and Inspire Through Play” panel hosted by Geek & Sundry, de Paul revealed that his portrayal of Reinhardt is very much inspired by his father, making the animated short all that more poignant. He loved the opportunity to both play Reinhardt in the trailer and introduce it during the Opening Ceremonies, showing his obvious affection for Blizzard Entertainment and its community of players.

World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth

If you’ve ever stepped into Azeroth for either the Alliance or the Horde, it’s impossible not to feel moved by the announcement trailer for the newest World of Warcraft expansion, Battle for Azeroth. No matter which side you fought for, you’ll be more than moved when Sylvanas rallies the Horde, and practically be ready to take up arms yourself.

Hearthstone: Kobolds and Catacombs

The announcement trailer for the newest Hearthstone expansion, Kobolds & Catacombs, may not have the emotional weight of the other two trailers, but it more than makes up for it in lighthearted, dungeon-crawling fun.

Singing the catchy tune is Matthew Mercer, voice actor for Overwatch‘s McCree and Dungeon Master for Critical Role. At the Geek & Sundry panel, he mentioned that he felt being asked to narrate and sing the obvious tongue-in-cheek take on a certain RPG tabletop game was “delightfully ironic.”

Blizzard also shared new cinematic shorts for Heroes of the Storm, as well as the introduction to Overwatch‘s newest hero, Moira. Keep an eye for announcements from Blizzard about all of the new expansions and game content coming soon for players of their popular games.
