The One Thing You Should Pick Up for Your Kids on Force Friday II

Force Friday is back! Originally held as a celebration of the merchandise release for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Force Friday is like a holiday for Star Wars collectors. This year, in honor of The Last Jedi, Force Friday II is hitting stores all over the country. And it’s not just new Star Wars toys you’ll find: apparel, accessories, books, and more are all making their debut.

It might not be easy deciding which goodies to buy before you see The Last Jedi, but there’s one book you should absolutely pick up on Force Friday II: BB-8 on the Run, written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Matt Myers.

Just as the Forces of Destiny short “Sands of Jakku” fills in some of the blanks in The Force Awakens, BB-8 on the Run shows Star Wars fans just what happened to the quirky droid in the desert after he escapes The First Order. BB-8 knows he’s on an important mission in a big, unknown place, and the resilient droid presses on even though he’s scared of what he may find.

The picture book story is just as exciting as any Star Wars story, packed with aliens, droids, and creatures, but the delightful tale of helping out friends even when it’s not easy makes it an ideal read for bedtime. Drew Daywalt, author of The Day the Crayons Quit, balances humor with heart, sharing an important message about doing good for others and fitting it perfectly in the Star Wars universe.

Matt Myers’ artwork looks like painted landscapes of a desert at sunset, with soothing colors but the unmistakable feeling that this is the galaxy far, far away.
