Be the Artist Exploring the World This Summer

As much as the world changes, there will always be sadness, but there will always be beauty. There will always be conflict, but there will also be celebration.

There will always be art.

Last summer, I focused on some fantastic American artists in my 2016 Be The Artist series, and this year, I’m planning on heading around the world…well, artistically anyways.

Starting next week and running every other week through early September, this next “Be The Artist” summer project series for families will look at artists from both the United States and around the world including Salvador Dali, Leonardo da Vinci, Frida Kahlo and Fujiwara Takanobu, as well as some of the popular folk art styles such as nise-e and sumi-e style Japanese work, and colorful South American molas. I’ll even take a look at the art of costume design with the sketches of Edith Head.

One thing we all know, art helps make the world a better place, and even bring in our own geeky edge can help younger artists appreciate the textures, colors and shapes of various world art styles.

I’ll be starting off with a British artist who is not only known worldwide for his creations, he has turned the world itself into his canvas: Andy Goldsworthy.

In the meantime, catch up on some of last summer’s projects inspired by artists like Grandma Moses, Von Dutch or Sandra Boynton.

Whether you spend the summer touring the globe, taking a regional road trip or just hanging out in your home town, you can always bring the world to you through the creative minds of our artists everywhere.
