The Amazing World of Gumball, Cartoon Network’s zany animated series, is heading to comic book stores with a special one-shot issue this summer. The all-ages anthology comic from KaBOOM!, an imprint of Boom! Studios, features the kooky characters from the hit show in hilarious short stories that fans will love.
“My Gumball story is about the Watterson kids’ epic quest to discover the cause of an unseasonal blizzard snowing in all Elmore and to put a stop to it before it ruins their summer vacation,” says writer/artist Kate Sherron (The Amazing World of Gumball: Recipe for Disaster, The Casebook of Rabbit Black). “This my third short for the Gumball comic series, so working on this story felt a lot like taking a fun road trip to visit old friends.
“I get to write silly, sweet stories about colorful, quirky characters whenever I tell tales about the Elmore crew—what’s not to love about that?”
Terry Blas (You Say Latino, Ghetto Swirl) also contributed to the anthology. “My Gumball story is about Gumball’s insecurities,” he says. “Penny buys a shirt and he wonders why she would ever need one since she can shapeshift. It causes Gumball to question whether or not Penny would want him to change up his style.
“I love The Amazing World of Gumball. It’s such a fun and interestingly animated show. I love how things become so out of control and intense in every episode. It makes you wonder where everything will end up. The opportunity to play in that world and create an adventure for the residents of Elmore is some of the most fun I’ve had in comics.”
