Let Google Big Data Help With Super Bowl Recipe Ideas

We like bacon-y Super Bowl recipes. This is our Bacon Explosion from Super Bowl 2015. Image credit: Patricia Vollmer

Do you have traditional Super Bowl party foods that you make year-after-year? Perhaps it’s a recipe for which you’re pretty well-known? Do you favor the classic snacks (chili, wings, chips, guac)? Or perhaps you enjoy making up something unique and special to wow your guests? In our house, we throw “healthy eating” out the window and try some of the classic party snacks.

Google presented a fun list of the most-Googled snack ideas this past week, divided by state. The list showed up on Google’s Super Bowl LI “trends” page earlier this week, but numerous other news outlets were able to capture the list before other Google trends took it over.

Some of the items on this list seemed pretty bewildering to us; we GeekMoms discussed some of the more unusual entries, such as cupcakes for Connecticut, California, and Texas. We singled out why folks in Kansas needed to Google a recipe for s’mores (our consensus, if you need a recipe, you’re doing it wrong). And perhaps if one person in Wyoming was Googling “homemade oreo cookies” numerous times? Ohioan Nivi Engineer declared that she needs to get with the program and prepare pulled pork pita nachos. I zeroed in on the tater tot casserole, which was the most searched snack food in Oregon.

As for me, I’ll be hosting a few folks this Sunday, and I will be pulling from numerous items on this list, from chili to Buffalo wings. I’m also going to make some bacon roll ups, something that’s campy, yet delicious.

Here is Google’s list of recent most-searched snack ideas, organized by state. I’m not going to give you links to these recipes. I know our audience is good with the Google-fu. Consider this a great list of new game snack ideas!
