Imagine having this for a 'hand'. Photo: Wikimedia Commons
Lately, it seems that the GeekMom and GeekDad family have had somewhat of a tattoo theme. We shared with you a great kid’s book called Tell Me A Tattoo Story. Then we shared with you the collection of tattoos that decorate our own bodies. As someone who doesn’t yet have my first tattoo, I keep finding these fun stories to share with our readers. The first one I’d love to show you is an amputee who made a radical decision when it came to getting a prosthetic arm.
When a French tattoo artist lost his right arm, he decided not to go with the standard hook or the realistic hand-looking prosthetic. In keeping with his profession, he chose to have a tattoo gun instead of a hand. Even though he was left handed before his accident, with his new efficient right-hand tattoo gun, he can be productive with either hand.
Check out the breakdown of the parts it took to make his hand, and the video of him using it, at this link.
The second story I’d love to share with you is just as inspiring. A New Zealand artist challenged his Facebook friends, saying if he could get 50 “likes” on his post, he would go to the nearby children’s hospital and give temporary tattoos to sick children. He got a bit more than 50 likes. We’re talking 400,000. He knew it was meant to be.
Check out this link to the pictures and a short video of the very excited kids this artist covered with temporary tattoos. Having just spent a bit of time in a hospital with one of my own sons, I can totally get behind this becoming a trend. Anything that takes a kid’s mind off the next shot, medical test, or endless questions by a doctor is a good thing in my book.
