3 ‘Star Wars’ Handprint Paintings for Younglings

When my daughter was a toddler, one of our favorite activities was making handprint paintings together. She loved feeling the cool paint as the brush tickled her fingers, and I loved having a small keepsake of her little hands. Add a Star Wars theme to the handprints, and you’ve got a perfect painting to hang on the fridge or paste in a geek mom’s scrapbook.

Here are three Star Wars handprint painting ideas crafted with small hands to make happy memories.

What You Need

• Washable paint (Crayola)
• Paint brush
• Black marker
• Paper

Princess Leia

Begin by painting the right palm peach. Next, paint each finger brown. (The brown we used turned out looking reddish when it dried, so you might want to try a darker brown to match Leia’s color.)

Press the palm with fingers tight together to the paper.

Next, paint the same colors on the left hand. Place the palm over the palm you just painted to make Leia’s face.

Allow the paint to dry completely.

Next, draw Leia’s face, belt, dress, and boots with the black marker.

Use the peach paint to press two fingerprints for hands.

And finally, use the silver paint to paint dots on Princess Leia’s belt. Princess Leia (pictured at the top) is complete!

Yoda

Begin by painting the index, middle, and ring fingers gray to make Yoda’s hair.

Next, paint the thumb, pinkie, and palm green for his ears and face.

Press the hand firmly on the paper to leave the handprint. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Next, use a black marker to add eyes, a nose, and a mouth.

With the brown paint and a paintbrush, paint Yoda’s Jedi robe beneath his head.

Finally, dip the tip of a finger in the green paint, and press a fingerprint for each little hand and foot.

Allow to dry, and your cute Yoda painting is complete!

Chewbacca

Begin making Chewbacca’s head and face by painting the palm and fingers brown. Press the palm with fingers tightly together to the paper.

Allow the brown paint to dry completely.

Next, use the black marker to draw Chewie’s eyes, nose, and smile. Add two little fangs to the smile.

Use a small amount of white paint on the paint brush to paint the fangs white.

Close to Chewbacca’s “neck,” use the paint brush to paint his black bandolier.

When the black paint is dry, paint the small white rectangles to finish the bandolier. Chewbacca is complete—what a Wookiee!
