Happy Comic Release Day! Welcome to another installment of GeekMom’s “Comic Book Corner,” where we recap our adventures in comics for the week. This week, I share with you some of my favorite Spider-Man stories while Kelly shows us what’s been up in Smallville Season 11.
Dakster Sullivan–Spider-Man
Last week, I embarked on my very first New York City adventure. I was super-excited about this trip for two reasons: 1) It was my first interstate mother-daughter trip, and 2) I was given the opportunity to see Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark on Broadway! With that waiting in the wings, I proceeded to brush up on my favorite web-slinger before I left home and I’d like to share with you three of my favorite Spider-Man stories:
These three stories don’t even scratch the surface of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. If you’re new to Spider-Man, I would highly recommend you check each of them out. Ohh, and don’t worry…I’ll be writing about my experience at Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark soon, so stay tuned to GeekMom for the full review!
Curious to know what I’m pulling this week? Check out my pull list on Comixology.
Kelly Knox – Smallville Season 11 #56: Olympus (DC Comics)
Anyone who thinks that Wonder Woman’s origin story is “tricky” needs to pick up the newest digital issue of Smallville Season 11. In just a few short panels, writer Bryan Q. Miller captures the magic of Diana and Steve Trevor meeting on Paradise Island for the first time.
Not only is the little princess simultaneously fierce and adorable as the story kicks off (thanks to artist Jorge Jimenez), later in the issue she jumps right into action as Diana of Themyscira. The costume brings her Agent Diana Prince days to mind, and makes me curious if she’ll make an appearance as Wonder Woman before the arc plays out.
This is only the first part of the three-issue “Olympus” story arc, but it’s off to a great start–and Diana seems right at home in Smallville. With a mystery revolving around Martha Kent, and Clark and Diana yet to meet, next Friday can’t come fast enough.
