Missing The Blue Angels Already? Keep Your Kids Looking Up With National Kite Month

Put on your sneakers and dust off your kites, April is National Kite Month! The American Kitefliers Association and the Kite Trade Association International aim to reach 600 kite events around the world during the month of April to celebrate the universal joy of kite flying.

The National Kite Month website offers an array of resources, from a list of events that you can attend to teacher resources and printable fun. Kite flying is accessible to almost anyone on any budget and a tremendous activity to discuss natural sciences with your kids. Kids can also build their own paper kites to explore aerodynamics elements such as lift, drag, and weight.

My town hosts a large kite festival every April in honor of National Kite Month, which is how I learned about it. We attended the festival with our 2-year-old last year and even at her young age, she had a blast. She made it perfectly clear that holding the kite was her responsibility and hers only. We look forward to attending the event again this year.

Find your local event or make up your own backyard fun. With the cancellation of the Blue Angels air shows, celebrating National Kite Month is one way to keep your kids looking up to the sky at the wonders of flight.
