If you grew up in the 80s like I did, there’s a high probability that you came across Julia Child the same way: through PBS. The ebullient and impressive host of a variety of programs, she had a way with food–a casual, almost childlike enthusiasm for great ingredients and everything French.
In celebration of her 100th birthday, PBS has pulled out all the stops at their website, including a highlights video and that gorgeous infographic above.
Julia was a self-made woman who broke the rules left and right, doing everything she was told precisely not to. One of her most memorable quotes, “I think every woman should have a blowtorch,” sums up the spirit of GeekMom pretty well. We salute you, Madame!
Don’t forget to check out the Google Doodle for today, either! It’s lovely.
What are your favorite memories of Julia?
“This is my invariable advice to people: Learn how to cook — try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless, and above all have fun.” — Julia Child
