Seidio: Expert Portfolio Case Review

This self-proposed Apple junkie is at it again. This week I’m looking at the Seidio Expert case for the iPad.

Originally meant for the Father’s Day Gift Guide, I decided to hang on to it and give it a post all its own. Why? Because it’s just that awesome! Designed for the iPad 2 and iPad 3 in mind, this case is as simple as they come.

At first glance, it doesn’t look like much and I was a little skeptical at how well I would like it. When I first opened the case, the first thing I noticed was the lack of clips and straps to hold my iPad in place. The second thing I noticed was the gel pad on the inside. My first reaction was “this is supposed to hold my iPad?” After looking over the directions to make sure it wouldn’t permanently stick to my device, I figured what the heck, and I placed my iPad within its grip.

Amazingly enough, the case held. To test out the strength of the adhesive, I held it upside down over my bed and my device didn’t budge at all. It was a nice surprise to see something work as well as it’s advertised.

Later, when I decided I wanted to use my Logitech keyboard, I was able to remove it with a little effort. Once I was done with my keyboard, I reattached the case with no problems. The gel held on just as well as it did before I removed it.

Now, I know what you’re thinking…will the adhesive leave a residue on my device? The answer is, no. I saw a little smudging, but nothing that wasn’t normal with the use of any case. Another point worth mentioning is that the soft synthetic leather interior doesn’t leave any unwanted marks on the screen once you close it up.

To top it off, the case only adds 2.3 mm to each side of the device. It also has a magentic strip that trips the iPad’s screen lock feature when you close it up. I really appreciate this because I don’t have my screen set to lock after a certain period of time. If I want it locked, all I have to do now is shut my case.

Overall, I’m very happy with this case. The cover is versatile in that you can use it to stand up your iPad for movies or prop it up for typing. It’s slim enough to still fit in my Mickey Mouse iPad sleeve and it fits my style; lightweight and simple.
