Etnies: These Shoes Grow Trees

Feet care, too. Image: etnies.com

Each year the largest area of rainforest removal happens in Brazil. There are plenty of initiatives underway to reduce deforestation. One way you can help? Wearing shoes.

That’s because the California-based company etnies plans to plant 100,000 trees within the Atlantic Rainforest’s state of São Paulo throughout 2012. The company’s one-for-one program plants a tree for every purchase of men’s, women’s, or children’s etnies listed on the Buy A Shoe Plant A Tree page.  Last year they planted 35,000 trees in Costa Rica.

This year they’ll partner again with Trees for the Future, a non-profit that’s been helping communities around the world plant trees for 23 years.
