Leap Into Good With The Leap Year Project.

It may be hard to believe, but we are once again approaching that special day that happens only once every four years. I don’t personally know anyone who was born on Leap Day, but that’s probably because only one out of approximately 1,250 babies is born on this special day (compared to any other day of the year, which would represent about one in every 365 people). We’ve all heard the stories, about teenagers who will technically celebrate their fourth birthday, even though they are old enough to drive. Or the nursing home resident who is only ‘really’ twenty years old. But what about the rest of us? What are we supposed to do with this unusual day?

In one of my (rare) sessions of chasing butterflies on the internet, I came upon an answer. It’s called The Leap Year Project. The main idea is that changes in our lives sometimes take great leaps of faith. And what better year to make a change, and take a leap, but this Leap Year of 2012?

To take it a step further, the creator of The Leap Year Project, Victor Saad, wants us all to encourage each other with our leaps, specifically by sharing our actions on social media. Tagging them with #lyproject will get the word out, and let others know they’re not alone in their big leap.

There are very few rules to this project. Overall, the leap should be about doing good, and making the world a better place. As Victor says, ” What risk will you take to change your life, your community, or your world for the better?”

On The Leap Year website you’ll find a great FAQ page and a fun little (inspiring) video. You can like the project on Facebook and even post your ideas on their page or their website.

I haven’t come up with my leap goal yet, but I hope to have a revelation by February 29th. I like any idea that makes me step outside the comfort zone of my daily routine, and challenge myself, to help my community and my world.  What about you? Are you ready to take a leap this year?
