Botox Mom Update: Negligent, or a Fake?

Botox for an 8 year old: truth or an elaborate hoax?

I wrote a post about the mom who gave her daughter Botox as a means to get rid of wrinkles that the mom thought was deterring her daughter on the beauty pageant circuit. This story has gotten a lot of press across the internet along with much outrage that a mom would do this to her child.

There was an investigation and the daughter was taken out of her mom’s custody. But now — according to an  article on TMZ.com — the mom says that the whole thing was a hoax, she never gave her daughter Botox, and that she doesn’t even enter her daughter in beauty pageants.

The TMZ report says that the mom claimed she was asked to come forward with this false story by a British tabloid newspaper,  The Sun, for $200. She was reportedly later promised more money by sharing her story on different TV shows such as Inside Edition and Good Morning America.

The mom also allegedly claims that her daughter was examined by doctors at the UCLA Medical Center, where she says they found that her daughter did not have any Botox in her system. According to TMZ, the woman’s daughter has been returned to her custody under the condition that a cousin will supervise both mother and daughter.

I know times are hard in this economy, but I’m not sure making this elaborate lie and thrusting her child into the middle of a media frenzy for money is much better than the supposed Botox injections.
