It’s Time to Explore a Local Museum!

A great place to explore!

It’s hard to believe, I know, but it’s finally spring! If we all make it through this horrendous tornado and flood season, summer is just around the corner. As a mom, the warmer weather inspires me to get the kids out of the house and into some fun museums. As a library employee, I’m noticing that other moms are thinking the same thing. Suddenly our drawer full of museum passes is becoming vacant.

That’s right, you can get free museum passes at many local libraries! Our library is stocked with over a dozen passes, to all types of museums. Last year our family explored some amazing exhibits at the Clark Art Museum and saw a great William Steig (creator of the original Shrek books) display at the Norman Rockwell Museum.  We’re also blessed with the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. And yep, residents of my town can see it all for free, with passes checked out at our local library.

One word of warning, many libraries limit the passes to residents of their particular town. Some of the libraries in our network share passes with anyone in the county, while others, like my local branch, restrict them to locals only. But it’s worth a few phone calls, and a little checking around, to see what might be the next cool place you can visit. I know we’ve checked out a few places that were not even on our radar, until we saw the free pass in the stack at the library.

Free passes to family friendly places, just another reason to love and support your local library!
