Big Brave News From Pixar

Yesterday a ripple went through the internet when Entertainment Weekly published first look images of Pixar’s latest in development, Brave.

Yes, Pixar movies are usually something to look forward to, but this one more than most. After many, many rants of mine, this one features – finally – a female lead! It’s happening! Not only that, she sounds like she’ll be a warrior princess.

Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish.

And, this is co-directed by Pixar’s first female director, Brenda Chapman. Oh, Pixar, I’m so excited. I’ll keep my promise and take my daughter to see this many times.
