Before there are caps and gowns, there are capes and tights–in a metaphorical sense. Educators are superheroes, and now there is website dedicated to them (or maybe to some of them).
Classroom Superheroes is a project of the National Education Association. Parents and students are invited to nominate Classroom Superheroes, and teachers can register themselves as superheroes. The website claims that “The best way to support your classroom superheroes is to speak up for public education.” But what if your superhero is your geek mom, or a teacher in an alternative school, or your elderly next-door neighbor who tells great stories? Will the NEA count these superheroes too? I’d love to know, so let me know if your favorite teacher gets counted among the ranks of the Classroom Superheroes!
