Entertainment Featured

Hold onto your Unicourses, everyone, the biggest episode of Bluey ever is coming on Sunday. “The Sign” is the first-ever extended-length special from everyone’s favorite Heeler family and premieres this Sunday, April 14.

Here is your road map for how to watch this episode:

  • 12:00 a.m. PDT on Disney+
  • 7:00 a.m. EDT/PDT on Disney Junior
  • 7:30 a.m. EDT/PDT on Disney Channel.

A brand new episode, “Ghostbasket,” is currently streaming on Disney+, and with this episode revealing that the Heeler house is up for sale, all eyes are on Sunday, and worldwide tension is mounting. Among Bluey fans, this is bigger than the eclipse! In 2023 Bluey was Disney’s number one series for both preschoolers and kids, it was the number two most-streamed show overall in 2023, and it consistently features in Nielsen’s weekly Top 10.

“Ghostbasket” and “The Sign” mark the first time the series has premiered an episode globally. This is a big deal for those of us fans based outside of Australia.

I have cried over a Bluey episode many times. I made it two minutes and fifty-eight seconds into “The Sign” before I began tearing up.

I was teary-eyed again five minutes and sixteen seconds in.

At minute twenty-five, I was weeping openly.

Twenty-seven minutes and four seconds in I was crying uncontrollably and my family was concerned about me as I was squirreled away in a corner of the house with a laptop and headphones.

The genius of the show translates well to the extended format of “The Sign”, and the storylines that the team has picked out for this episode will satisfy and delight all audiences. My kids are such a wide variety of ages right now, I have one in elementary school, one in middle school, and another in high school. Talking to my spouse about decisions we have to make can be hard, to find the time and to find a balance with the changing demographic in our house. This extended episode really hones in on that feeling of parenting in a changing household, and I felt deeply every look from Bandit and Chilli.

While the majority of the episode remains the Bluey we know and love, in a couple of places the creators were able to explore some new artistic styles, which reminded me of our favorite episode of Bob’s Burgers, “Brunchsquatch.” The storytelling mechanism that Calypso uses is just delightful.

There were a few things that utterly delighted me. Chilli checking and rechecking, then having conversations about the safety precautions for seating the car was done so beautifully. But then I was blown away by the dance scenes and the family portraits, as I was reminded once again of just how brilliantly the creators of Bluey capture the emotions and mechanics of a real family.

“The Sign” is an absolute roller coaster of emotions and you may be able to hear the sobbing from space on Sunday—the joy, the sadness, the raw emotion of family. While I am sad for us viewers that the team is taking a break before starting on season four, I can’t help but share in the collective pride of such a wonderful family show being part of our lives.
