I’ve been avoiding this comic. Comic #100. I’ve been avoiding grief. I’ve been avoiding loss. I’ve been avoiding the reality that my aunt is gone. No more book recommendations from my favorite librarian. No more infectious laughter. No more special holiday desserts or comforting hugs. It was way too soon, Aunt Deb. You are loved. You are missed.
I’m thankful that I was able to say goodbye. Even though I didn’t know what to say when I did it. Even though I wanted to stay strong for you and I cried anyway. I feel like I didn’t say enough now. I’m not sure I could have ever said enough.
I avoided this comic because I didn’t want it to be real. And now it’s real. And I miss you.
