2018 Holiday Gift Guide: Movies and Music

Reading Time: 3 minutes

As geeks we frequently have a love of the arts, and I especially have a love for music and movies. Below we offer up a few things we use to enjoy them.

Seattle chip-hoppers Supercommuter are back with the only album to truly capture the boundless ennui of the year 2018, Trash World. Vibes Hearing Protection for Concerts

Vibes High Fidelity Concert Earplugs
Suggested By: Anton
Mfg: Vibes
Price: $24.95
Purchase: Vibes High Fidelity Concert Earplugs

My favorite way of enjoying music is at a live show. Usually loud, fuzzy, and raucous shows. The only problem is that the sound at many of these shows exceeds safe levels and can cause hearing loss. As a precaution my wife and I always carry hearing protection and one of the better plugs I’ve tried are the Vibes. They provide a 22db drop in sound pressure which brings most shows down to a level that doesn’t cause tinnitus or lasting hearing loss while preserving most of the sound experience.

Wicked Audio Arq Wireless Earbuds

Wicked Audio Arq True Wireless Bluetooth Earbud Headphones
Suggested By: Anton
Mfg: Wicked Audio
Price: $79.99
Purchase: Wicked Audio Arq True Wireless Bluetooth Earbud Headphones

I recently upgraded to the Pixel 3. My first phone without a headphone jack. I know it’d be a problem in the wood shop as my sole Bluetooth headphones were terrible at noise isolation. When Wicked Audio offered up a pair of their Bluetooth earbuds, I took them up on their offer and boy am I glad I did. The light weight, long battery life, and great Bluetooth range allow me to leave my phone charging on the workbench as I move about the shop. Sound isolation is great, but not so much I can’t hear the equipment. The music audio is awesome for such a small device. The carrying case contains a battery so you can charge the earbuds anywhere and it even includes a USB type A for charging any other USB device.
