GeekDad Exclusive Clip: Elsie Fisher in ‘Eighth Grade’

Reading Time: 2 minutes

If you haven’t yet watched the new movie Eighth Grade starring Elsie Fisher and directed by Bo Burnham, you’re doing yourself a disservice. As a former junior high school teacher and the parent of a current eighth grader myself, I can tell you that this is perhaps the most realistic portrayal of the middle school experience ever depicted on film. Fortunately, Eighth Grade is coming to Blu-ray (plus Digital) and DVD October 9th from Lionsgate so you can be sure to catch one of the most relevant pieces of cinema today. To commemorate the release, GeekDad is pleased to share an exclusive clip highlighting the pitch-perfect performance of the film’s star, Elsie Fisher as Kayla.

Unless you’ve stepped foot in a school sometime in the last ten years, then you may not be aware just how different the social pressures are and to just what lengths kids go to put themselves on display on social media and in real life. Fresh off her 8th grade year herself when she began filming, Elsie Fisher brings authenticity (blemishes and all) rarely seen in movies today. Take a peek at the exclusive clip below and consider watching this one with your own middle schooler to prompt a deep and valuable discussion. You’ll be glad you did.
