Kickstarter Alert: ‘Heroic Girls in Books’ Wallchart

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Two of my geeky obsessions are infographics and wallcharts. If I could find a way of adding wallspace for posters in my house, I would most definitely do so. If I had storage room for unmounted prints, I would have a rotation policy like many major art galleries. Yet despite it requiring major rejig of my interior decoration, I think I’m going to have to find room for at least one print from Curious Charts. Considering that many of the reviews I write here on GeekDad are for books, I think my new print will have to be its latest Kickstarter, the Heroic Girls in Books wallchart. The Kickstarter is already underway and fully funded.

What is the Heroic Girls in Books Wallchart?

Curious Charts is the brainchild of a teacher and graphic designer, so it’s perhaps not surprising its products largely have an educational flavor. Subtitled “100 Bold and Brainy Heroines of Young Adult LIterature,” this chart has a simple premise. It takes 100 heroines from popular fiction, gives them a little hand-drawn illustration, a short synopsis of the book in which they appear and displays them on a poster 24″x36″ in size.

The books included are aimed for readers aged 13 upwards, and the chart is great for both reminding readers of excellent books they’ve already read, but better, provides a springboard to discover more great books with great heroines.

The chart is broken into five main sections, Fantasy, Mystery, Romance, Realistic, and Historical Fiction. Within those categories, there are further attributes such as “Diversity”, “Family,” and “LGBTQ.” These are given as colored spots, the key to which is given at the top of the poster. Most books have multiple attributes.

Why back the Heroic Girls in Books Wallchart?

This poster is great for book lovers everywhere. It’s perfect for bedroom walls, school classrooms, and libraries. Many of the books have been written during the 21st century but some older classics are represented too (such as Pride and Prejudice and Little Women). The depth and breadth of books covered is impressive, with a host of genres and themes represented.

For those who want a more hands-on experience, there’s even a color-in version.

One poster will set you back $27; shipping is available worldwide and is free within the US. There are additional multi-buy options available and the possibility to combine your order with other posters from Curious Charts’ back catalog. Go check it out here, right now.
