‘Dungeons & Dragons: Stream of Many Eyes’

There can be no mistaking the popularity of Dungeons & Dragons right now. At pretty much any time of any day you can turn on Twitch and watch a group of people, some professional and some less so, play D&D. This popularity is spurred on by well-established groups such as Critical Role, Acquisitions Incorporated the C-Team, and Dice, Camera, Action!

Nowhere else is this evidenced or celebrated more than in WotC’s Stream of Many Eyes. This is a 3-day live-stream event where the Dungeons & Dragons team invite familiar faces from across the D&D roleplaying community to share in their excitement at revealing the next major D&D story.

Last year’s inaugural Stream of Annihilation saw Hollywood actors playing alongside veteran D&D streamers and game designers, all to announce the Tomb of Annihilation storyline. This year the line-up includes even more recognizable names and faces from across the entertainment and gaming industries, all sitting down to play numerous games of D&D to launch the latest campaign, Waterdeep: Dragon Heist.

Stream of Many Eyes

The stream begins with host Anna Prosser Robinson of Dice, Camera, Action! and D&D head honcho Nathan Stewart introducing the event and taking us on a tour of the set, designed to imitate the fabled city of Waterdeep.

Then Anna moves on to talk with Dungeons & Dragons hotshots Chris Perkins, Mike Mearls, Kate Walsh, and Jeremy Crawford to reveal as much as they can about the next D&D campaign.

After the round-table discussion of the new campaign, there was just enough time for two live-play sessions with Force Grey and then Dice, Camera, Action!

Waterdeep: Dragon Heist

What we now know so far:

• It will be very different from previous 5^th edition stories. In those, heroes fought dragons and giants and evil cults and were taken to Barovia and the far reaches of Chult, all focused around epic, world-ending events. Waterdeep: Dragon Heist takes D&D back to civilization.
• It is an urban romp inspired by heist films such as Ocean’s 11 and The Italian Job.
• The new adventure is a natural companion to Xanathar’s Guide to Everything. It exploits new rules and features of that book and the two complement each other.
• The city of Waterdeep becomes a character in and of itself and is as important as the player characters.
• There will be options for shorter campaigns as well as big expansive ones.
• The campaign will reward creative problem-solving.
• It will be released on 6^th September 2018.
• The campaign book will contain a large poster map of Waterdeep for use in-game.

More to Come

This was all just the first day of the 3-day Steam of Many Eyes and there is much more to come. There will be more live-stream games from Sirens of the Realms, Rivals of Waterdeep, Dark & Dicey, High Rollers, Girls, Guts, Glory, and more from Force Grey and Dice, Camera, Action! It really feels like never before have so many Dungeons & Dragons fans been so involved and invested in the roleplaying community, and WotC is doing a fantastic job of encouraging and supporting that investment.
