Disney Cruise Line has a new addition to their Star Wars at Sea offerings this year with the Galactic Transformation at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.
The transformations are available on the same day as the main Star Wars at Sea day and are supposed to add a bit more magic to the guests day for those that didn’t bring their own costume. No matter your age you can book an appointment to become one of four Star Wars characters: Rey, Leia, Poe, or Kylo Ren.
Disney has been very open about what the kid’s package includes complete with pictures of each transformation but they haven’t been clear about the adult offerings. Still, I had my hopes up that it would be awesome because the kids looked great.
Despite the lack of information, on my recent Star Wars at Sea vacation I signed up for the Galactic Transformation just for giggles to see what it was all about. For $54.95 I figured I would at least walk out with some swag.
There’s very little information on Disney’s website in regards to what the adults get, so here is what I received at my transformation.
The Adult Galactic Transformation includes:
None of them interested me (for religious reasons I couldn’t do Rey’s shirt and the dress was a maybe). If I had known my options prior to booking, I would have canceled from the start. Since I was already there, I went through with the rest of the transformation and upgraded to the Rey dress figuring if nothing else I could buy some leggings and a short sleeve shirt to make it more presentable for my style.
My stylist tried to put a Rey bun in my hair but seeing as my hair is super short it looked more like something you’d do to torture your sisters Barbie than to an actual person so it was quickly removed. Makeup was also kind of a joke with just some powder blush, powder liner, lip liner, and blush applied. It wore off before I was back to my room.
The entire process was less than exciting (and that’s being nice) and took a total of 15-minutes, including my “costume” change.
Limited options – For the price, I expected something a bit cooler than the options available and the Her Universe Dress was overpriced. It would have been nice to have a regular Star Wars exclusive shirt available on top of the other choices.
Hair/makeup – If you have long hair, the Rey or Leia hairstyles will work. If you have short hair though, like me, it’s a step they can just skip over. The makeup didn’t make me feel different or even look different.
There’s just nothing special about it. – You’re paying Disney $54.95 (or in my case $84.95 since I did the dress) for stuff you could easily get on your own in the gift shop, with the exception of the magnets. And in the gift shop, you have a wider variety.
Looking at the kids in the boutique, I’d say it’s worth it for them. I didn’t see a child in there that didn’t look they were having fun. The kid’s package is $99.95 and gets them everything the adult package does plus a costume (Leia, pilot, Kylo, or Rey) and a bag to keep the costume accessories in.
If you are heading out on the Star Wars at Sea sailings, sign up the kids but treat yourself to a few Rainforest passes instead. Or better yet, put the money towards one of the rebel jackets or metal artwork pieces in the gift shop. My husband was drooling over those all week.
