LEGO Asks for Space Set Ideas

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Looks like LEGO has finally realized what we all knew to be true: LEGO space sets are AWESOME. Although LEGO has released plenty of their own space-themed sets, the highly successful Mars Curiosity Rover, Saturn V rocket, and Women of NASA sets all came out of the LEGO fan community (now known as LEGO Ideas). To build upon that legacy of user-generated successes, the LEGO Ideas Moments in Space competition asks for users to submit space design for possible production.

The competition is open for submissions until February 9. Photos of designs built from actual LEGO bricks are accepted as are conceptual designs built inside the LEGO Digital Designer software. After submissions close, the community voting and expert reviews of the sets will begin. One winner will receive a bunch of LEGO sets in addition to the possibility of having their set released to the public!

One big caveat: the competition is for a smaller “Gift with Purchase” set. The rules ask for a set that can fit on a 16 x 16 baseplate and have no more than 300 pieces. (If you want to create that full-scale replica of the moon landing, this isn’t the contest for you!)

Have fun and start building, LEGO Maniacs!
