‘Little Shop of Horrors’ Returns to Movie Theaters for Halloween

Little Shop of Horrors returns to movie theaters just in time for Halloween. Yes, the world’s most dangerously charming man-eating plant, Audrey II, is preparing to take over the planet–or, at least, movie theaters around the country.

The cult classic returns to theaters for two days only for the Halloween season. And Audrey II has a big surprise up his… um… vine?

For the first time ever in a national theatrical release, the movie will be seen with its original ending, fully restored and digitally projected, finally realizing the original vision of director Frank Oz and screenwriter and lyricist Howard Ashman.

This flick is just too fun. It has all the rock opera elements that remind me of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Who would think that a quirky Broadway play about a man-eating plant from outer space would be adapted to the big screen and become a beloved cult classic? Science fiction horror meets the stage with just a dash of geeky romance, too. The duet “Suddenly Seymour” even went on to become a beloved tune that I’ve heard many times over the years at musical theatre auditions. When it is sung as well as Ellen Greene, it always gives me chills.

Starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, John Candy, Christopher Guest, and the doo-wopping trio of Tichina Arnold, Michelle Weeks, and Tisha Campbell, it’s an eye-popping and unbelievably entertaining experience perfect for Halloween.
