My 5-year-old calls himself a “mathemagician.”
It is the perfect description, really. He finds numbers to be magical. Math makes him happy.
As the parent of a little mathemagician, I am always on the hunt for high-quality math storybooks. Today, I’d like to share a new favorite: Stack the Cats by Susie Ghahremani.
In Stack the Cats, award-winning illustrator Susie Ghahremani introduces young children to early math concepts. Featuring adorably silly cats, Stack the Cats will delight children of all ages.
I find that most storybooks geared toward this age group focus on counting to ten. Stack the Cats goes beyond counting. With colorful and quirky illustrations, Stack the Cats introduces children to addition, subtraction, and grouping numbers to ten.
My little mathemagician loved this one and as a homeschool mom, I am happy to add this title to our math bookshelf! This book would make a great stepping stone for mathematical discussions, number play, and/or classroom and homeschool lessons.
Our homeschool routine is based upon carefully selected, high-quality educational games and fantastic read-alouds. Every morning in our homeschool, we enjoy a tradition called Coffee and Books, and then later in the day, I attempt to pair our morning read-alouds with educational games.
Coffee and Books was an unplanned, unexpected tradition, but one that has made a huge impact on our homeschool. I love to share our Coffee and Books on Instagram and recently created a free 5-day Coffee and Books series. My hope is that the Coffee and Books series improves your morning routine. I hope that it makes your homeschool day a little bit easier, that you build a morning connection that lasts throughout the day.
