‘South’ Is a Sweet Story of an Unlikely Friendship

This week, we discovered the sweetest new picture book about friendship. We have read it aloud so many times that I almost have it memorized at this point. The book is called South by Daniel Duncan, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

South tells the tale of an unlikely friendship.

South is a heart-warming story of an unlikely friendship between a lonely fisherman and a little bird. While out at sea alone, a fisherman hears a noise and discovered an injured bird on the deck of his ship. The fisherman cares for the bird, bandaging its injured wing. As the bird heals, the fisherman realizes that the boat’s path is heading farther from the little bird’s home and family. With winter–and migration–approaching, the fisherman decides to change the ship’s course to head south. The book ends with a bittersweet goodbye and a lasting message about friendship.

I love when I find a good book about friendship, and this is definitely a keeper! This is one of those books that pulls at your heartstrings. I am so happy to have discovered South and I foresee many more memories of snuggling before bed with this one!

Do you love fantastic read-alouds too?

Our homeschool routine is based upon carefully selected, high-quality educational games and fantastic read-alouds. Every morning in our homeschool, we enjoy a tradition called Coffee and Books, and then later in the day, I attempt to pair our morning read-alouds with educational games.

Coffee and Books was an unplanned, unexpected tradition, but one that has made a huge impact on our homeschool. I love to share our Coffee and Books on Instagram and recently created a free 5-day Coffee and Books series. My hope is that the Coffee and Books series improves your morning routine. I hope that it makes your homeschool day a little bit easier, that you build a morning connection that lasts throughout the day.

Now, it’s your turn! Tell me: What is your favorite picture book right now? Share here!
