DanTDM’s ‘Big Scene’ Can Tide Diehard Fans Over

YouTuber Dan “DanTDM” Middleton is in the middle of a U.S. tour with a stage show that completed a sold-out run in England. If your DanTDM fans in the house dream of seeing him on the stage, but it’s just out of reach, his new YouTube Red series DanTDM Creates a Big Scene is the next best thing.

While the series shows DanTDM in a different light than kids typically see in his videos, familiar faces and Dan’s unending enthusiasm have the same appeal.

DanTDM Creates a Big Scene is a scripted series that features Dan getting his new show ready for the audience. He’ll have to think of something big to appease the crowd, but he’s not alone. It wouldn’t be The Diamond Minecart without Dr. Trayaurus, so, of course, he’s a major part of the new series. His dialogue, true to Dan’s videos, remains in text, so if you’re watching with a younger kid, be prepared to read aloud what he’s saying to help the story along.

Dan is also joined by a new friend, Eve, played by Danielle Tabor. Danielle, who also played Angelina Johnson in the first three Harry Potter films, brings energy and warmth to both the scripted series and the stage show.

The cast also includes Dan’s two pugs, who often make appearances in his vlogs and other videos on his YouTube channel. While at first my eight-year-old was delighted to see the two familiar dogs, she was disappointed by their teasing and bad attitudes. (After all, they’re adorable in real life.) She understood they were just characters in the scripted series, but the pair dampened her excitement for the show.

Other characters include a larger-than-life pig, an Evil Dan, and an animated bird. These characters are boisterous and played for humor, and also part of the stage show, which is featured heavily in the series. Those scenes give a good idea of what the touring show looks like, so if your kids are disappointed that they can’t make it, DanTDM Creates a Big Scene can tide them over.

If you already have YouTube Red and DanTDM fans in the house, DanTDM Creates a Big Scene is an amusing way to get even more DanTDM. While it’s difficult to recommend signing up for the service just for this series, there is other new kids content ramping up on YouTube Red, including Fruit Ninja: Frenzy Force and Kings of Atlantis.
