Celebrate Handwriting With BIC!

BIC is challenging everyone to celebrate handwriting and encourage those in their homes to practice the lost art of the written word. When was the last time you hand wrote a letter or journal entry? With back-to-school around the corner, now is the time to dust off those elementary school lessons and get back to it.

According to the Hanover Research in their 2012 article, “The Importance of Teaching Handwriting in the 21st Century. Washington, DC,”

“Experts recommend at least 15 minutes of handwriting instruction each day for students. Research has shown that improved handwriting skills have benefits for cognitive development, motor skills and can lead to improved writing skills and comprehension.”

One of the important things to think about when you sit down to write is what you’re going to write with. There’s the ease of use, the feel, how the ink does or doesn’t drag on the paper, and, for my son, there’s the coolness and color factor.

When it comes to what to write with, I’m very picky. For the most part, I use a Paper Mate Inkjoy Mini because of its size and ease of slipping into my mini-spiral notebook (and it’s purple!).

Recently, though, I’ve been introduced to a couple of new designs by BIC, and it looks like Paper Mate may have some competition.

First up is the BIC® Gelocity™ Gel Pen (Retail $5.49 for a 4-pack).

Second, I tried the BIC Atlantis® Original Retractable Ball Pen (Retail $5.19 for a 4-pack). This was the pen of choice for my son. He didn’t try the others on this list because he was drawn to this one the most.

Last but not least for the pens is the BIC® 4-Color Stylus and Pen ($5.49).

Pens are not the only writing tool, though, and while I’m partial to pens, pencils are not so bad either.

BIC® Velocity® Side Clic™ Mechanical Pencil is a nice mechanical pencil choice.

No matter what you choose to write with, just write! Handwriting a note, letter, journal entry, etc., gives your message that personal feel that is lost when you type it.
