Roll For It, a Calliope game now on Kickstarter. Image: Calliope Games, used with permission.
Calliope Games is a well-known company name in my house and around GeekMom. The company is known for family games, including Ugh!
Roll For It is a new dice game by Calliope up on Kickstarter now. The game is a strategy and press-your-luck game with hints of other dice games thrown in. My husband and I played a demo of it at PAX Prime in 2012 and really enjoyed it. I am excited to see it up on Kickstarter now.
The game includes: the rules of the game, a deck of thirty cards with a variety of dice configurations on them, and enough six-sided dice for four players. The game play is straightforward and allows for varying amounts of strategy.
The rules are basically this: roll the dice, match the dice rolls to face-up cards from the deck in the middle of the table, and when you can match all of the dice on one card, you can score it. Do you leave some dice out to try to score that big card, or try to roll for the smaller ones? When a player reaches forty points, that player wins the game.
The game is fast, compact, and can easily be played with kids. Even for people who play board games on a regular basis, this game is a great one to throw in as a space filler on game night. When my husband and I played it, we thought we would play a round and move on. We ended up playing a couple of games because it went so quickly and the goals changed often. If you would like to try the game before backing it, you can play an online version first.
The Kickstarter still has a couple of days left and is just short of being funded. $15 will earn you a copy of this fun and colorful game.
