Senator: NASA to “Lasso” Asteroid, Bring it Closer

Today Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), the chairman of the Senate science and space subcommittee, announced that President Obama is planning to invest in an accelerated asteroid mission in his 2014 budget proposal.

Imagine using an Orion Spacecraft to go “lasso” an asteroid, position it near the moon, and make it available for long-term exploration. Click through to learn more about today’s announcement.
