Soul vs. Marshall — Headphone Showdown

This past week I was given the opportunity to have a showdown between two sets of headphones. Being the headphone junky that I am, I was excited to see who would come out on top. In the first corner was Soul SL49 by Ludacris. The handy case and tangle-free wiring gave these headphones an upper hand against their opponent. In the second corner was Marshall Minor FX by Marshall. I really liked the style of these headphones and the gold plating on the connector piece was a nice touch. At first glance, it looked like it was going to be a tough fight.

The battle began with Soul taking the first round by storm. The sound and comfort of the product was amazing. I was able to wear them comfortably without any painful side effects after taking them out. The built-in volume and track worked really well every time I used it. The only downside I found was when I was doing my dance routines and running, the earpieces would not want to stay in. Since these headphones are not advertised to be used for sports, I won’t count that against them.

Round two was a bit tougher on Marshall. The comfort factor was there while I was wearing them, but I had a painful after-effect once they were removed. I tried the four different size ear clips, but they would either fall out or were way too tight. The next issue I found was with the built-in track changer. It doesn’t have the ability to change the volume and it has a delay between switching songs. The ear clips, though a little painful, kept the ear pieces in place without needing adjustments while doing my routines. On the plus side, they have a stylish look to them. The sound was nice, but not as strong as I would have liked. If you are more concerned with how you look while wearing them, as opposed to how your ears feel when you remove them, these would be fine for you.

Overall, I would have to say Soul is by far the most comfortable and sound pleasing of the two. Marshall gets its biggest points for being stylish and having the ability to stay in my ears during my workout. With an average of a $20 difference between the two on Amazon, I would have to say Ludacris gets my money. I’d rather spend a little extra on comfort and sound quality than ear ache and style.
