Geek Celebrates with Eight Experiments for Hanukkah

Our family celebrates the holidays with science! For each night of Hanukkah, we do a different experiment. This year, we used two fabulous books for inspiration: The Book of Totally Irresponsible Science: 64 Daring Experiments for Young Scientists and The Book of Potentially Catastrophic Science: 50 Experiments for Daring Young Scientists. The experiments we picked are so fun and easy, we videoed our practice run for your amusement and inspiration. More information about the experiments can be found below the video, but they’re fairly self-explanatory.

These experiments – and more – can be reproduced with common household supplies: balloons, baking soda, vinegar, broken CD, intact CD, soda bottle cap, water, jar, food coloring, strong plastic cup, latex glove, orange, wooden skewers, tea candle, box of matches, tea bag, soup can, masking tape, super glue, flashlight, drinking straw, modeling clay, lamp, and video or it didn’t happen.

(Side note: Pobody’s nerfect. The blooper reel is coming soon…)
