Christmas at Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida is a tradition in my family, and this year’s theme tied into my childhood. A Christmas Story is one of my mom’s favorite movies, and it’s also this year’s theme for ICE! at Gaylord Palms.
Many a year I can remember my mom putting that movie on for 24 hours while we prepped the house for the annual Christmas Eve party, so the core scenes are dancing in my head like sugar plums this time of year.
The over 40 artisans from Harbin, China did an amazing job (as always), but this year even more so with the core scenes of this iconic Christmas film. The ice slides took my breath away, with their depiction of when Ralphie gets kicked down the mall slide by Santa while telling him, “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid.”
Even my husband, who doesn’t even really like the movie, had a great time looking at each of the scenes. The turkey and the dog scene had him laughing.
Of course, no A Christmas Story depiction would be complete without a major award, and you see it several times. You’re even able to climb into the crate for a photo!
I have to say that next to A Charlie Brown Christmas, this is one of my favorite ICE! years yet and one that I’m very happy to have been able to see.
