Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit

Electronics Reviews

Programming can seem like magic, and with the Harry Potter Wand kit by Kano, it becomes magic.

It starts with the magic of building your own wand, and then you quickly jump into the magic of coding. With the flick of your wand, you are walked through 70+ step-by-step challenges from the wizarding world that help you learn the magic of programming.

You can do all this on your Kano tablet or your iOS, Android, Mac, or PC device, providing it has Bluetooth capability. Other than downloading the app, the use of the internet is limited. Bonus points for Kano.

I did this on my MacBook Pro and it worked like a charm. My son had the wand put together in 5 minutes, I had it synced to the computer in 2 minutes, and we were programming altogether in under 10 minutes.

The lessons start out basic, so anyone can jump in and learn. It’s a fun way to get someone who might not be into programming into the craft.

As you progress, you can earn medals as well as costume pieces and accessories for your profile to show off your new skills to your digital friends.

Kano recommends this for ages 6 to 690, but I’d say a more realistic age is 6 to borderline 13, depending on how hardcore of a Harry Potter fan they are.

The Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit is available wherever Kano kits are sold and retails for $99.99. Since it’s the holiday season, you can find deals at various vendors for $20 off, so keep a lookout for them. The last place I saw it on sale was Target and Kano’s website. All sales have been extended through the end of the year at Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Kano’s website, and Amazon!
