PlayFair 2017 comes to New York City’s Javitts Center on November 4 and 5, bringing parents and kids all the joy of ToyFair’s toyish insights wrapped up in a family-friendly, interactive package.
What is PlayFair 2017?
Now in its second year, PlayFair is the toy industry’s equivalent of NYCC. Whether you’re a kid or just a kid at heart, PlayFair is the place to see toys and interact with your favorite brands in cool, innovative ways.
What is there to do?
Y’all, you don’t even KNOW. If you’ve ever checked out our GeekMom ToyFair coverage (or if not, do it NOW!), you know that ToyFair comes with all sorts of cool interactive activities. However, while ToyFair has all sorts of cool stuff, it’s a “grownups only” tradeshow.
Now, take that and multiply it by a factor of “We want kids to have an amazing time!”
Yup, now you’re getting excited, right?
Who’s going to be there?
Since PlayFair 2017 is presented by Toys “R” Us and Spin Master, you can bet that there’s going to be every single toy brand you love.
Not only are there toys galore coming, but there’s going to be all sorts of character interactions including Paw Patrol, PJ Masks, Shimmer & Shine, SpongeBob, Peppa Pig, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles among many others.
What is The Main Stage?
PlayFair’s Main Stage is where it’s at. Intended to be the most kid-friendly, super fun experience, PlayFair 2017 has Greg T from Z100’s Elvis Duran and the Morning Show. The Main Stage is host to everything from a Shopkins Fashion Show to a Halloween Costume Parade. If you want to see some excellent toys, there’s going to be a Ben 10 Sneak Peak.
You know what I want to do the most? The battle in the NERF arena. Anyone who knows me knows that I openly say NERF guns saved my marriage. Except for that one time my kid hacked my FaceBook and posted “Poop” while we were battling. But then again, this is the perfect opportunity for a wee bit of payback.

Why, yes, PlayFair 2017 is YOUR CHANCE to get to meet some of us awesomely amazing GeekParents. I’ll be there all green haired and geeked out, and GeekDad Michael will be geeked out but not as green-haired (or WILL HE?). Be on the lookout; we might even bring a second GeekMom!
We like to bring the info and the fun, so we’re planning an interactive discussion on characters in kids’ TV. With media infiltrating every aspect of our lives and our kids’ lives, we want to talk about your kids’ favorite characters, what they love about them, and what that means. Kids of all ages will be able to help us act out characters and get their wiggles out while we take a good look at what our current characters say about the world our kids are living in.
What is this Activity Stage of which you speak?
The Activity Stage this year is host to a ton of awesome experiences for the kids. The Radio City Rockettes are going to be there to teach kids to dance. The authors of Peg + Cat will be chatting with the kids. Mindy Thomas from the NPR Podcast Wow in the World will be answering “Ask a Scientist” questions.
