Howdy! Are you heading to Denver Comic Con from June 30th – July 2nd this year? It’s bigger and better than ever, with amazing special guests lined up from all of our favorite media, from Stranger Things to Buffy the Vampire Slayer to The Princess Bride to Weird Al to some of the classic “Golden, Silver, and Bronze Age” comic book artists and writers! I’m excited to be getting to go again this year, and I’m planning full coverage for GeekMom along with Randy Slavey for GeekDad!
Now that we’re in the month of June, I’ve dusted off my sewing machine, got my cosplay-brain-chip loaded up, and I’m working on my family’s costumes for this year’s Denver Comic Con! This year there have been many changes to the con, including moving the date from its often-scheduled Father’s Day weekend (which bodes well for those coming from the eastern seaboard who also like attending AwesomeCon). In addition to the date change, there have also been some security, registration, and entry procedures announced last week on the DCC’s Facebook page. If you haven’t checked out the changes, here’s the text for you.
DCC’17 PSA: NEW ENTRY LOCATION, SINGLE REGISTRATION LOCATION, AND BAG/PROP CHECKS FOR 2017!
Hey DCCers, we have three big changes involving entry this year, so please read this post carefully! You can send questions to info@popcultureclassroom.org.
First: The main entrance for the con has changed this year, and will be at the “Bellco Theater Entrance” on the SPEER BOULEVARD side of the Convention Center. [Author’s Note: see the diagram later in this post]
Second: There will be only one Registration location (where you go to exchange your tickets for badges, or to buy new tickets) this year. The single Registration area will be in the Lower B Lobby on the Welton Street side of the Convention Center. Note that we’ve had a Registration area in this location each year of the con.
Third: Our security team will be doing bag and prop checks this year for everyone’s safety. We will begin the entry process earlier than in past years because of the increased time required for checks. The exact opening time will be announced in the coming weeks. There will be two entry lines, one for people who have bags or props, and one for those who don’t. Full disclosure: The line for bag and prop check will be much slower than the other line, so if you want to get in as fast as possible, leave your bags and props at home.

Here’s a diagram of the Colorado Convention Center to help orient you with these changes. Be sure to allow plenty of time for registration/ticket exchange, prop checks, and general entry into the convention center. I know my boys and I have a goal to be at the train station we park at by 7:30am this year.
GeekDad Randy already covered the cosplay rules in his post from a couple weeks ago. But this is a great diagram worth sharing once again. This is a family friendly event that has no intention of deviating from its mission of helping bring pop culture to youth as an educational tool. TL;DR: No shirtlessness, no shoelessness, no cracks:
