Dear ‘Disney Magic Kingdoms:’ We Want More Land!

According to my profile, I’ve played Disney Magic Kingdoms for almost 250 days. In that time I’ve battled the Incredible’s event, Nightmare Before Christmas event, Frozen holiday event (my disappointment in that event could be a post all to itself), and I’m currently working through the Lunar New Year event. It’s a fun game to kill time with but it could still use a few improvements that would make it stand out among its competition.

GeekMom Sophie and I have agreed that these are the improvements we’d like to see in future updates.

More land – We see it. We want it. Open it up.

Trading between players – I have so many benches I could build a monument out of them (if I had more land). It would be nice if I could trade them to other players or sell them back for magic.

Remove decorations from platinum chests – I foolishly paid twice for the Incredibles chests only to be rewarded with a statue or a bench. Really? 60 gems for a bench? And I wasn’t the only one upset. Facebook was full of complaints about this from my fellow players. Remove the boring and put something worth our gems in there. Suggestions: epic tokens, attractions, decorations that DO something (a water fountain that has special effects to it for instance), special chest only characters, or gems are all worthy ideas.

Quests overview – It’s easy to forget who is on what quest and how much longer they have till they are freed up again. A screen showing you where your characters stand (and bonus points if there is a star next to them indicating their level) would be a welcome addition.

Games – Taping firecrackers is all nice and fun but how about turning one of those major attractions into something we can explore as a game? High scores get tokens or some other item as a reward. Charge a couple gems if you want (just make the rewards worth the gems please).

More land – Yes. This again. Do it. Now.

More Merlin – We don’t see him that often and generally he’s associated with bringing in a new character or opening up more land. So…give us more of him. If nothing else, have him update us on Maleficent. He hasn’t done that in a while. To get him to show up a little more frequently, introduce the Sword and the Stone characters to go along with the attraction.

Nighttime option – In Smurfs, the game changes based on your timezone so when it’s nighttime at your house, it’s nighttime in the game. It would be cool to have a nighttime parade to run or fireworks to shoot off for happiness points to add to the environment.

Auto place attractions – Another game I used to play, Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector, you could buy various decorations, food, and toys and if you were unsure where to fit it all, you could push a button and the game would shuffle it all around for you. It would put up some older stuff and replace it with newer items that you bought. This might take part of the challenge out of the game so that’s why this is listed last.

Honorable Mention – Beauty and the Beast is coming out in March. Wouldn’t it be a stroke of marketing genius to, oh I don’t know, give us the characters in the game with maybe an epic battle between Gaston as the finale? I’d play the heck out of that event.

No matter the additions, what I think all gamers can agree on is we want better rewards for our gems and more land!

  1. Great post!

In hindsight, it looks like GameLoft was reading either your mind or your post. Maybe you were both just on the same wavelength, as great minds think alike.

I totally concur with your primary comment of MORE LAND!

As for the idea of removing decorations from platinum chests, I think you can safely forget about it. Anything which would deter from you buying stuff of out of frustration is out of the question for GameLoft. They have a reputation to uphold, and that reputation is squeezing their customers’ wallets by manipulating their minds. The same goes for trading with your friends. GameLoft will never change their games in any way which might impact the likelihood of anyone paying them money for anything.

GameLoft did add a Merlin feature for “trading in” your worthless junk, but it’s more of an overly complex way to burn through your magic than anything particularly useful. The game still tries its best to manipulate the minds of players into coughing up real money out of frustration. You’ll notice prices and items change depending on whether you need them. As with chests, parades, and everything else—the more you need them, the less available they become.

IMHO, the game borders on outright fraud for misleading players into believing the game is fair and random, when in reality it’s anything but. If Casinos worked like this, their owners would be in prison.

As for the idea of more land, it’s perplexing why GameLoft hasn’t done this. My suspicion is that it’s not profitable to expand the game. Only seasoned players would benefit, and such people have learned how to avoid being coerced into paying for stuff. Beginners are the best targets for their sneaky tactics. Once you know the game’s tricks, there’s no point in expanding. Seasoned players won’t fall for it anymore.

Perhaps my favorite idea is nighttime mode. Not only would it look wonderful, but there’d be actual reasons for placing your own lamps. But I doubt that will happen either, for the reasons already mentioned. No point beating a dead horse.

  2. The game is fun. But takes too long to upgrade characters and waaaayyyy to long to free up land. Thinking of not playing anymore. It’s getting dull and boring.

  3. I’ve only got two more chunks of land to buy up and then I have zilch land expansions. I wish they’d open up the area “outside” (that pirates boat looks so very tempting!!)

  4. Lion King event was frustrating. Never got quest work to register after welcoming Timon.
    Thinking about quitting game.

  5. Does the land around It!s a small World ever open up? I have the land in front of it but could use land behind it. Merlin stated it was time to remove more curse from kingdom and get more land but that was it. Nothing else happened after to stated it.

  6. I have been playing a very long time & I have 6,265,980 positions & I can’t do anything with it. Right now Aladdin was introduced & so far I have Aladdin, Jasmine, Abu & almost have the Genie but I’m out of land. When I click on 1 cursed land it says coming soon & the other says complete more Aurora’s quest but she’s nowhere to be found. I need more land but can’t get it. Just like I find it ridiculous that you need so many jams unlock certain characters like WallE, Iago, Jack Sparrow etc. The game is starting to not be fun anymore because I feel like the creators of the game make it so hard. Any advice from anyone?

  7. I’m out of available land space for required buidings. The sizing of the territory’s is not sufficient against the building sizes. The chest rewards are diffinitely not worth the cost of gems…I try to use the cauldron to unload those for trade but the cost of magic is ridiculous to make those trades and limits me the trade options to characters I’m not presently working on rather than offering trade for all of my open characters so I feel this is pretty useless. I too have thought of quitting the game mainly for the COST. This is waaaaay too pricey and again, I can’t go anywhere with it as Disney doesn’t open the territory’s quickly enough and the land size to building size seems to be off. The cost of territory magic to open it early is ridiculous… another way for Disney to get the bucks! I’ve also found, they/iTunes wait so long to charge, it always seems there’s upcharges in the unitemized charges to my card so I can never confirm. Something to be mindful of

  8. Seriously need more land. They keep doing these new events but there’s no space for new attractions. What are they waiting for???

    1. Not sure but I stopped playing for a while because I couldn’t fit it all with the land they have opened. I think I’ve missed the past 3 or 4 events because I was so frustrated. I open the app once in a while to see if they have opened the land up but they never do so I close it back up.
