‘American Gods’: Exclusive Variant Cover Reveal

Comic Books Featured GeekMom

You already have an idea of how magnificent American Gods will be in graphic novel form—because I teased you. And you guys were so awesome with your appreciation, Dark Horse Comics has given me an exclusive on the variant cover debuting at Emerald City Comic Con next week. Check out the lovely:

Dark Horse Comics brought in Becky Cloonan, who I will say has done a brilliant job capturing the mysticism of The Buffalo Man.

If you’re a fan of Cloonan, you will recognize her minimal color scheme for maximum effort with the symbolism. I love it. It is such a huge complement to the theme of American Gods.

If you’re not a fan, then get yourself to your local comic bookstore and ask them about Demeter, Gotham Academy, and The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.

And if you’re heading to ECCC next week (for which am I horribly green with envy), you also have the opportunity to say hi to Cloonan for me and chat about all of her art and writing.

Serious. Envy.

Now if you are a “completionist” like myself, you may be interested in the other covers available for American Gods #1. Considering this series is one of the most highly anticipated releases for 2017, it’s nice to see Dark Horse Comics isn’t holding back on their cover artists. We have Glenn Fabry with the initial cover; David Mack (who will be doing covers for all the issues of the series); and Dave McKean, who is a long-time Gaiman collaborator.

This is not your standard run-of-the-mill storytelling, and the art supports this. Totally.

Remember: American Gods. Graphic Novel. Issue #1 released March 15. Exclusive variant cover by Becky Cloonan. All over ECCC.

You are now officially up to date.
